How we research our guides

Leaf Litter Lab is written by The Leaf Litter Lab Team. We don't claim credentials we don't have. Instead, we are open about how every guide is made, so you can judge it for yourself.

Where our information comes from

• Published research and university or extension resources where they exist.
• Care sheets from established breeders, retailers and hobby organizations.
• Long-running hobbyist communities and forums, where many keepers report the same results.
• Manufacturer documentation for products and equipment.

We compare several sources for every key fact, such as safe ranges and care requirements. When sources disagree, we say so and explain the more cautious option. Important sources are listed at the end of each guide.

How we write

• Every guide answers one main question and gives the short answer at the top.
• We explain the reasons behind our advice, not just the steps.
• We never present something as our own hands-on test if it isn't.

Updates and corrections

Each guide shows the date of its last update. We review guides when new information appears or when readers point out a mistake.

Product recommendations
